The 9th International Conference of Ombuds Institutions for the Armed Forces (ICOAF) focused on the role of ombuds institutions as a moral compass for the military. These institutions can drive positive change by investigating complaints and enhancing the effectiveness of the armed forces. However, building trust among military personnel remains challenging due to skepticism towards external bodies.
The conference discussed strategies for ombuds institutions to influence cultural attitudes, improve trust in complaint procedures, and encourage institutional reforms. By drawing on insights from previous ICOAFs, the event provided an engaging space for participants to share experiences, discuss successes, and identify areas for improvement, deepening their understanding of best practices and challenges within ombuds institutions.
