The 16th International Conference of Ombudsman Institutions for the Armed Forces (ICOAF), addressed the pressing issues faced by armed forces amid geopolitical tensions and evolving security threats.
The conference provided a platform for participants to engage in discussions about the challenges of protecting the rights and well-being of service members while navigating the complexities of modern military operations. Key topics included the unique needs of veterans, the experiences of female service members, and the importance of family as a support system, underscoring the critical role families play in the well-being and resilience of service members.
Through a series of thoughtfully designed panel sessions and interactive discussions, attendees shared insights and strategies on enhancing the accountability and effectiveness of ombuds institutions. The conference culminated in the compilation of best practices and recommendations, collectively endorsed by participants in a non-binding Conference Statement, emphasizing the commitment to uphold the duty of care for service members and their families in an increasingly uncertain environment.
